Privacy Policy

EFFECTIVE JULY 10, 2026 · MILECHAIN FOR iOS

Data Not Collected. Milechain has no account, no server and no analytics. Your mileage ledger lives on your iPhone and syncs through your own iCloud — we never see it, and there is nothing for us to sell.

What Milechain stores, and where

Everything you enter — trips, stops, saved places, vehicles, purposes, notes, odometer entries and your deduction rate — is stored in a database on your device. If iCloud is enabled, that database syncs through the private iCloud database of your own Apple Account (CloudKit) so your data follows you across your devices.

Private iCloud databases are readable only by you. Milechain's developer has no server and no technical means to access, read or recover your ledger.

Route lookups

Milechain does not track your drives with GPS. When you add a stop or pick a route, the app asks a map service to compute driving routes between the stops you chose. Those requests carry the stop addresses or coordinates and go to:

Requests are used only to return the route you asked for. They carry no account or user identifier from Milechain, and the developer never receives, stores or can access them.

Location

Location is used in two ways, both under the standard iOS while-using-the-app permission. Tapping to add your current location as a stop reads one fix, which becomes a stop in your on-device ledger and part of that one route lookup. If you turn on Arrival reminders (off by default), iOS itself watches for your arrival at your saved places and shows a local notification offering to add the stop; that monitoring happens inside iOS — Milechain never receives your location in the background, and nothing about your movements leaves the device. Turning reminders on looks each saved address up once with the map service to place the reminder area — the same kind of lookup as adding a stop. You can decline the permission, leave reminders off, and type addresses instead.

Purchases

Milechain Pro is a subscription processed entirely by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit). Apple handles payment and billing; Milechain only learns whether the subscription is active. We never see your payment details or Apple Account information. Terms of Use: Apple's standard EULA.

Ads on the free tier

The free tier shows a small banner with static, built-in ads. There is no ad network and no ad SDK in the app: nothing is fetched, no impressions are reported, and no data leaves your device to show them. Pro removes the banner entirely.

Report emails

Weekly, monthly and yearly reports are composed on your device and sent from your own email account using the address you enter. Reports and their CSV attachments never pass through any Milechain infrastructure.

What Milechain doesn't do

No accounts and no sign-in — there is nothing to register.
No analytics, telemetry or crash-reporting SDKs.
No tracking across apps or websites, and no data sold or shared with data brokers — there is no data to sell.
No network connections beyond Apple's map service, your own iCloud, and Apple's App Store.

Your data, your control

You can edit or delete any trip, day, place or vehicle in the app, and export your ledger as CSV at any time. Deleting the app removes the on-device database; iCloud copies can be removed via Settings → iCloud → Manage Storage on your device, because the data is yours, in your iCloud.

This page describes the app's actual behavior. If a future version ever changes what leaves your device, this policy will be updated first and the change will be called out in the App Store release notes.
